Championing Mental Health and Well-being.

Winnie Orodi

I’m Winnie Orodi, a Clinical Psychologist deeply passionate about mental health and overall well-being. To me, every mind holds incredible strength, and every heart carries a story of resilience waiting to be told. I find joy in storytelling—not just as a way to connect, but as a powerful tool for healing. This passion led me to co-author Muamko Mpya, a groundbreaking psychosocial support manual for the police, and to write five Psychosocial Education workbooks for preteens and teens (Tunzwa Workbooks 1, 2, 3 and Angaza Workbooks 1 & 2). Through these, I weave narratives that inspire emotional strength, adapting Western mental health tools to fit the richness and realities of our African context.

Bio

In my work I have come face-to-face with individuals who have endured profound psychological trauma. Whether it’s women reclaiming their agency or children navigating mental distress, I employ trauma-informed approaches that restore dignity, hope, and mental well-being. At the core of my practice is a firm belief: every person has an innate ability to rise, to create, to thrive. My role is to walk alongside them, helping to unpack the obstacles that stand in their way. Together, we unlock their innate potential, rebuild confidence, and rewrite the stories of emotional resilience.

Over 3 years experience in social healing work in communities that have been heavily affected by trauma caused by violent extremism, political marginalization, cultural practices, historical injustices amongst others. Trained as a Trauma informed psychologist passionate about creating, holding and transforming healing spaces through a Trauma-Informed circle process. Facilitated healing sessions for victims of violent extremism, gender-based violence and post-election violence in the Coastal region, Nairobi and Kisumu counties in Kenya. Experienced with developing and facilitating programs that foster the healthy psycho-social development of preteens and teenagers while retaining their agency. Strong advocate for mindfulness and meditation inspired by African practices in her facilitation, which allows for introspection and mind and body connection.
